I cannot overstate how much I did not want to hike up this hill.View across a small valley at a hiking trail going straight up the side of a still, heavily wooded, lushly green hill.

As seen on BART. I love my neighbors.

Picture of a rainbow colored protest sign someone’s carrying through the subway. It reads:&10;&10;SUPER&10;CALLOUS&10;FASCIST&10;RACIST&10;SEXIST&10;NAZI&10;POTUS

We saw a blue heron on our hike today.

A tall, scrawny bird with a long neck is standing by a tree on some grass. It’s grey. It looks sad, though, hence its name: blue heron.

With the sun behind me at sunset and reflecting off the buildings, and a perfectly clear pink sky behind them, the San Francisco skyline almost looked like a render.

San Francisco from street level, looking up at tall buildings (including the Salesforce tower). The buildings are blue and shiny. The background is pastel pink. A low wall in the foreground is covered with graffiti.

    Hey you.

Photo of a payphone. Someone has written on its box with a blue marker: “sitting naked by the phone, can you hear me?”

Another hiker caught my wife and me cresting the top of a hill, then airdropped the photo to us. People on this trail tend to be either don’t-bother-me busy with their workout, or very social and ready to chat. Not that I’m either of those, exactly.

A tall man and short woman are silhouetted against the sky. There are some large trees overhead. Both people are using hiking poles. The man is wearing a brimmed hat.

The Black Panther Party had a 10 point platform. These demands are painted in various places around Oakland, CA. This is the painting for number 4:

It’s in the middle of a homeless encampment. Some things are better now. Some are not.

Emergency cat pics! June Bug is grooming “her” kitties, Sam and Dean.

Looking straight into the camera, with her arm around the yellow kitty.

The current art exhibit at SFO D gates is a bunch of old phones.

A glass museum case full of blue, orange, yellow, black and red lineman test sets, and thick, like 3 inch wide, cross sections of telephone cables.

San Francisco at night from the Alcatraz ferry.

The San Francisco skyline against a foggy sky. There are a million twinkling lights, a million souls in giant skyscrapers, glimmering office buildings, thousands of houses, and a bustling shoreline.

This is either sunset behind clouds, or San Francisco has grown a volcano.

Giant blue-grey clouds behind a close skyline with palm trees. There’s a deep red glow inside several pockets within the clouds.

Think I’ll walk a little faster.

Armored police officers next to a large black truck labeled “San Francisco Police Department Bomb Squad”.

Watching the Bills game at a bar in San Francisco.

People sitting outside in front of large screen TVs showing the Buffalo Bills game. The bar is a small, local place called Northstar, and the sign above it says “drinking consultants since 1882”.

I have found my happy place.

    (Lake Tahoe, Cali.)

Photo of a beach with impossibly blue water and mountains in the distance. The edge of someone’s leg and foot is in the foreground.

Send help, can’t move, besieged by wildcats.

A tiny, orange kitty is sound asleep against someone’s leg.

    Down the liminal line.

Down the length of the SF Transit Center, with a row of lights disappearing into a distant vanishing point.

The new office’s view is quite nice.

View from 20 floors up in a building, overlooking SF's Transamerica Pyramid, Coit Tower in the distance, lots of fog, and Angel Island on the horizon.

My camera can’t capture the glowing orangey-pinks and violets of these flowering bushes on the sidewalk.

A painting hanging on a brick wall. It’s black and white of a young woman in a leather jacket, captioned “Look into your heart, There I’ll be”.

The afternoon’s adventure: Traveler’s Notebook aficionado nerdery.
