Sometimes I’ll buy something, at list price, with my own money, through normal retail channels, and decide that it’s great and I want to tell other people about it. Some vendors, like Amazon, run affiliate programs: if a visitor clicks a link on my site to theirs and buys the item, I get a referral fee.

I’ve enrolled in some of these programs over the years. Once a year or so, I’ll get a surprise check worth a cup of coffee or a cheeseburger. That’s not an exaggeration. Suffice it to say that I’m not getting rich off this. And yet, a little walking around money from people who thought I had something interesting to say is always fun.

My policy on affiliate links is this:

  • Yes, I do get a very small amount of money from some of the links on this site.
  • If you find something on this site that interests you, but you don’t want to click the affiliate link, I don’t mind. That’s fine with me.
  • If you do click a link and buy something, thanks! Let me know if you enjoy it as much as I did.
  • My thoughts are still my own. No one has ever offered me a penny to link to a product, and I wouldn’t accept it if they did.

If I tell you I like something, it’s because I did my homework, bought it on my own, enjoyed it, and thought other people would also like it.
